This article is basically identical to the AP article. If there is one thing the daily should be able to provide it is good original reporting on its sports, not verbatim rip-offs of AP reporting. Shame on you Patrick Fitzgerald and shame on you Nick Parker.
if that's what you want, then buy ad space, because it's tough enough to put together a travel budget for road games on the west coast. Fitzgerald noted that he used the AP, he wasn't being dishonest.
I didn't say he was being dishonest, I said i thought it is pathetic that the daily can't more thoroughly cover our basketball team. Honestly no one reads the daily for their coverage of world news, their niche is in coverage of stanford sports, specifically football and men's basketball, which are the only sports that really matter. I'm sure they can find funds to write an article that does more than copy from the AP. IDENTIFY YOURSELF "someone else"
just a daily staffer (not the author of this story) who wonders what sort of "world events" you think the Daily is spending too much time and funds covering. Most everything that appears in the Daily is either an on campus story or a story relating to a prof. or alumnus making waves in the world. Long story short, if you've got a problem with the distribution of resources and think more should be allocated to a sports travel budget, that's cool, but I don't see how that casts "shame" on the writer of this story who did the best he could with what he had to work with.
With all respect I don't think P Fitzgerald did the best he could. I watched this game and could have written a more detailed recap. Honstly compare this article to the AP article, IT IS THE EXACT SAME basically. Great example: the Stanord Daily reported when B Lopez got suspended by Trent Johnon, but never reported when that suspension got lifted despite this being reported by the Mercury-News. Basically the dialy sucks balls
The Daily pays to be able to use the AP in situations when it has to. Perhaps you should keep in mind that these are STUDENTS writing these articles, and that said students had a pretty busy week before Thanksgiving when this article was written. Besides, the Daily's sports coverage is excellent.
If you think the "Dialy" sucks, don't read it, sourpuss.
