A few weeks ago my son and I turned a corner in SF and saw some sad homeless guy on the sidewalk. His face glowed pale blue from the portable TV he was watching. It took over 20 years, but Max Headroom had become reality. I wonder he was watching Network 23 or Big Time TV.
I find it odd, that when it comes to the extermintor of blacks in Europe, and their free time in the Bay Area to pretend to be homeless while blacks and Hispanics must negate God or die!
I disagree with the editor's correction. Mr. Fagan's assertion was that supportive housing was the only proven/tested way that breaks the cycle of homelessness.
Additionally, this event is now available in both audio & video formats from Stanford Itunes. Go to www.stanford.edu/itunes and then open up "Communication & Media" then ASSU Speaker's Bureau.
i wish someone would look into the lack of phsyically accessible shelter and housing and how its soooo much easier to do progrmas and manage addcits and psychotics.
its multi disabled being left in the road.
of course kids get help first..
many of the homeless end up in dead end drug and crime infested sros and recylce back.
those sros arent safe decent or permenant most without even cooking facilites are belwo section8 standards and are NOT affoRdable esp fro most disabled unless your life plan is to search fro free pastRies and other stuff that resembles food.
MOST OF THE PROGRAMS also are geared toward the reahb crowd and the sober up kick in the rear bad motel/sro and a worse job are not perm solutions for most. but they are fast and easy for funding.
and no names ..so the same people run through 5 times is a new number and a new success.!
gotta love statisitics.
many who a few years ago were in transitonal situations are not permenantly housed before were still to be considered homeless are now not.
though there are more homeless. they are now in transition. or being recycled.
unless you need accessible then your are institutionalized or left in the road.
see if you can find any safe section8 landlord no stairs with parking near either uc or sf state to do voc rehab..
for those of us dont need reahb and how to become an unskilled laborer.but do need disbeld accomdations
there isnt any hting.
and what we really hate most is being to ld the addicts and the homeless are the same people.
when its fact many addicts will choose to give up everyhting to get high including a home.
and have no significant barriers.
many psychotics are that way form substance abuse
and some who are not still require skilled help to have 5 year success. the recently recovered now running the shelters are not dealing well..
many disabled cant get access to a home. we dont chose to be dumped to hrte side of the road fro the doe-eyed children and easy addcits we cant compete with fro limited resources.
we are after all more work. and take longer, bad for the statisitics
just like none said the katrina victims displaced local homeless..
those shelters who said cripples keep out displayed wheelchair toting staff fro the TV cameras.
certain realities are not made available to the general public.
when the va started doing beds in shelters they paid for the same beds funding got cut/shifted vet beds sf shelters were not new beds.
unless it was addciton related.
female vets and female disabled have extra reason to be denied.
none of the advocates do shelter issues.
most don't do section8 issues. too complicated do it yourself they say.
until they start tracking witing lists by name and 5 years .
dont expect any thing near an accurate picture.
those denied south come north those denied north go south. some just go away and die..
since, at one point at least ,25% of vets coming home with severe mh issues like ptsd were ending up suicides that seems to be the most common means still of permanently ending the hell of homelessness for many not easy disabled.
hud has cut many of the section8 programs fro hopeiv and middle class programs and projects for those local people to cover olmstead and advocay and move in assistnce is/are .not avail to many in the road.
if you worked became disbled suddenly and too soon you've also got bad credit. hud says never having worked is better!?
cant income qualify fro many progrmas on ssi.. not ssdi dev delay, blind or certian other of the better supported ,well lobbied groups.
sicne seniors were able to dump most disabled out of their programs its an a issue too more sdisbeld is more time homeless. yes, many dont survive long. anmnay arent even counted in the census.
its all innnacurate.
its not getting better.
and if your mulit disbled homless especailly the systems and the statisitics are not our friends.
sorry about the typos!
