A bit melodramatic, don't you think? I'd say, "Officials say the situation was under control the moment the minor tremors ceased."

Welcome to California. We have certain faults that are overdue for major, major slippages, on the order of the 1904 disaster. Every large quake could be a precursor and that's not fear mongering. It's probability and statistics.
