Good column, Wyndam. I happen to agree with your choice for MVP, but from a purely new-age statistical perspective, the Mets' David Wright is probably more deserving than both Holliday and Rollins. Using the measures you mention, Rollins might not be the leading candidate on his own team.
I think a legitimate case against Holliday, even for the less statistically savvy fan and voter, is that he plays half his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field and posts much better numbers there. Holliday's home and road splits this season are dramatic, whereas Wright, who plays half his games in pitcher-friendly Shea Stadium, (and Rollins) posted similar numbers at home and on the road.
That said, I don't think what Holliday has done since the start of the Rockies' remarkable run can be ignored. He certainly looks like the MVP.
