I call shenanigans on this.
"We experienced far fewer alcohol-related problems than in past years."
Who is "we"? First-year Resident Fellow Julie Lythcott-Haims? The Juniors on staff for the first time? At the most, you might have a couple of staff members who were around for orientation last year. There is no way you have personal knowledge of what happened during orientation any earlier than last year.
And moreover: of the twenty-odd freshmen I spoke with at last Saturday's football game, all of them attested to drinking, about half in Branner. This is supported by the statements of staff members (from other dorms) that their residents had been drinking as well. I didn't hear about any drinking outside of fraternities during last year's orientation.
I understand your desire to protect the reputation of your dorm, but in trying to set the record straight you have exaggerated the facts yourself.
Branner Sucks,
