Michael,
I loved this article, it basically says what I think. The only thing I would add is this - The Bible says that we are to take care of those who can't take care of themselves, such as the widows, orphans, etc. If every person who claims to be a Christian, wealthy or not, would do their part, we wouldn't have poor, helpless people anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, Satan rules on Earth too, and there are many people playing church that have never given a dime to help anyone and others who openly proclaim that they are not Christians, non-religious, etc. that just don't care. I wish you well with your writing. God Bless and Keep You!!!
Very cool article. Are you aware of a long-term economic development project going on in Rwanda (www.rwandancoffee.com)?
Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee is a co-op begun by the Anglican Church. Gourmet coffee is grown, harvested, picked, sorted, and processed in Rwanda. Then it's sent to GA to be roasted, packaged, and shipped. All the marketing is centered in GA as well.
The coffee is making waves in the US gourmet coffee market, and sales of the coffee provide both a "Living Wage" to the growers and "micro-loans" to genocide widows. These "micro-loans" enable them to start small businesses. During the coffee processing, members of tribes who were at war with each other only a few years ago are learning to work together.
Currently, the coffee is sold mostly through Anglican Church congregations, but the company is working to sell through restaurants and hotels as well. This effort will soon be totally self-sufficient.
