This is pharmaceutical industry rubbish. Those "statitstics" are not representative of actual number of adverse events suffered in clinical practice. The percentages come from short-term 2 to 6 week premarketing studies designed NOT to detect rare but severe adverse effects.
For example, antidepressant drug labels for years understated the percentage of patients who experience sexual dysfunction from these drugs--doctors now admit it happens in 70% of patients!
IF we had mandatory reporting of adverse drug effects, and IF the FDA were to monitor and analyze those reports on an annual basis--then we have a clearer indication of how often adverse drug effects occur.

I take three drugs for heart and blood pressure problems. I have switched to generics since I was experiencing stomach problems with Lipitor. Walgreens Pharmacy keeps switching the manufacturer on my generics. Generics are not all the same as I have experienced problems with the same type of generic from different manufacturers. I believe Walgreens buys from a wholesaler that gives them the best wholesale price.
