Congratulations, Michelle. Wise decision. Great choice.
Learn and enjoy life as a student in this top notch university and earn highly sought after degree which will come handy after you have enough of golf some years from now after Stanford and pro tour. You will match or even surpass Tiger Woods in what he does. The first pleasure and treasure is to win the NCAA championship while ace as many subjects as you can.
By the way, my son sat in some of the classes Tiger took, and my niece may just be in some of the classes you are in.
Best wishes.

Alex -
How could you possibly mention past Stanford Golf Greats without mentioning Tommy Watson?!?
Gasp. I was wondering about this too. Tom Warson and Stanford golf goes a long long way.
I think this is a great decision for Michelle and hopefully, she will be able to do well in NCAA and later on in LPGA.
Sadly, Nirund, she will never be able to win an NCAA championship. She gave up that opportunity when she turned pro. But she will still be able to enjoy all the other benefits of attending a great institution like Stanford. Welcome to the Farm, Michelle!
The interesting question is, had she not already turned pro, would she insist on trying out for the men's golf team or be content to star for the women's? I hope Michelle enjoys her time on the farm and finds a major that appeals to her. I do wonder though how it will be possible for her to balance being a full time student with the tournament schedule she has already taken on. This is a very different scenario from Tiger's when he was at Stanford.
Don't forget Hillary Lunke in the list of talented Stanford alums in the professional ranks. Joel Kribel wasn't bad either, but not sure if he ever made the PGA Tour.
I wonder what her stats (SAT, GPA) were. I got the impression that she was out playing golf when most people were trudging through high school. How many clubs did she start? How many hours did she volunteer? I hope she truly was a competitive applicant and not just another celebrity that gets everything handed to them. I hope her spot on the farm does not mean that someone who truly earned it was denied.
Stats, you have to be kidding me. How many applicants have dedicated themselves towards maximizing their talents? To imply that Wie might've taken somebody else's spot, when you have no evidence of this, is ludicrous.
H, I'm just asking a question. But since you imply that applicants who dedicate themselves to maxmizing their talents should be rewarded with admission to stanford, whould you feel the same way if the applicant's talent was bowling or jumping rope? Or does the talent have to make the applicant famous before it counts? My little brother plays Tony Hawk's Pro Skater like nobody's business, but somehow I don't think it will get him into stanford.
My impression is that past a certain GPA and SAT score, the university looks for people who can greatly contribute to the Stanford community. Somebody who dedicates the time and effort into being as successful as she is has proven not only that she's willing to put in the effort to succeed at Stanford, but will go beyond simply attending class. She has also had to sacrifice much to pursue golf the way she has, and I'm guessing in being the best Tony Hawk player around, there weren't a whole lot of sacrifices made. You wonder how many clubs she's started, I'd say being among the first women to try and play on the PGA tour is more revolutionary and has a bigger impact than most clubs that other students start or participate in. I agree that saying she might be undeserving without any real knowledge is ludicrous.
I too agree that saying she is undeserving without knowing her stats is ludicrous. Who said that anyway? I'm simply asking a question. You say that past a certain GPA and SAT score the university defers to other ways that the applicant can contribute, but I still wonder what the cutoff for "real" stats is. I wonder what her sacrifices were and why they mean more than someone who dedicates themselves to say, hopscotch or hotdog eating. That takes some serious dedication. Know what else takes dedication? Getting a perfect GPA and SAT scores. I would just like to know that the university is playing fair, and that famous people aren't just let in because they are famous. I'm not saying that is what happend with Michelle, but I am curious.
Michelle is asian...nuff said about academic eligibility.
