Just because you eradicate bedbugs once doesn't mean they can't come back. Saying "once you've dealt with it you're done" is terribly untrue. They can always, and easily come back.
Becca's right: bed bugs come back easily, unless you use a few kinds of extreme treatments not mentioned here. They can also be in a dorm room without the students feeling any bites or seeing any bugs. If they're in three dorms this semester, you should all be taking precautions. http://bedbugger.wordpress.com
Echoing the above comments.
Dorm residents should be taking precautions, including isolating their belongings in XL Ziploc bags, not bringing any potentially contaminated belongings home during winter break, and taking care to monitor their living space carefully throughout their residence in the dorms.
This is going to get way worse before it gets better. And they do come back, which has already been demonstrated.
WOW !!! “Crane said that in that room there were two million plus bedbugs and eggs,”
Two million in one room is not just an infestation ... it is WAY out of hand.
I encourage all students whether affected by this or not to do some research on things they can do to detect bed bugs at the earliest stages and then employ them as part of a weekly inspection routine.
Bed bugs have NOTHING to do with sanitation and having an attitude of "I won't get bed bugs" is a sure fire recipe for disaster.

This problem will only get worse.
The cessation of use of broad-sprectrum insecticides, the change in application to targeted gel/bait methods, and increased travel to/from exotic locales are some of the reasons. The major "culprit" is ignorance. People need to be aware the bedbugs are not just a bedtime rhyme, but a growing epidemic that will SEVERELY impact our economy.
It can financially ruin a family. They can be found in flophouses and 5-star hotels, in elementary schools and universities, in movie theaters, airplanes and trains.
Check your beds, baseboards and eletric switch/outlet plates, picture frames, and FURNITURE! Don't buy/rescue/take used furniture. Inspect your luggage and don't leave it in open or near hiding areas.
You get the picture...
