What?? Your response to someone's clothes being stolen is that they are too uptight about possessions, and in fact are at fault for caring? Is it no longer OK to be a bit miffed if something inconvenient happens to you? Because of poverty in our country and elsewhere, are you not allowed to complain until you hit that level yourself? If their entire livelihoods were stolen, would your response be, "so what? lots of people are poor. stop complaining, you didn't deserve the privilege in the first place?" Seems a bit weird to me to pin the blame for the horrible realities of existence on some college students who got their stuff stolen.

Can dudeguy ask any more pointless questions? If he actually read what Russ wrote, he would see that Russ was not placing the blame for "the horrible realities of existence" on the whining college students as dudeguy would have you believe. Rather, Russ is suggesting that the students can't complain much when a few clothes go missing while their $40,000/year tuition could feed a family in Africa for years. Furthermore, no one is talking about "entire livelihoods" being stolen, just some over-priced clothes.

I think some people (Russ and William) attempted to point out that the clothes were not nice. But regardless of the cost, stealing is wrong - but people at Stanford need to realize they are not immune from the realities of the world. Yes, we live on a "farm" but it is next to the big city. Oh, and I hear East Palo Alto isn't the safest community in the world.

And, anything you can get at Ross Dress For Less for $5 four months after it was introduced in the original store can't be referred to as "expensive".
