The author should mention that the full course of the vaccine costs something like $400, and that most insurance companies won't cover it...

Insurance companies usually cover what CDC's ACIP recommends. There might a few months' lag in the coverage but eventually (by early next year by some estimates) most insurance companies are expected to cover Gardasil. Aetna, WellPoint and Kaiser have already indicated they are covering/will cover it.

Check with your insurance company--and keep checking.

In regards to the first comment: treating cervical cancer would almost certainly cost more than $400, even after what insurance will cover.

I would also like to mention that the HPV vaccine is a series of three shots given over six months, but paid for up front because the three doses are sold to providers in a single package. (This was what I was told by my gynecologist.) If you are considering the vaccine, make sure you can go back to back to the same provider to finish the entire vaccination course. I mention this because as a junior who is going from one overseas program to another, I will have to wait for my residence to stop changing every ten weeks before I can get the HPV vaccine and I am sure there are other students in a similar situation.
