A couple of pieces of mis-information that need to be addressed:

"Weight is, to a pretty large degree, genetically determined."

This is merely an excuse for those who do not wish to hold themselves accountable. Unless you suffer from a thyroid disorder, there is liekly a flaw in your DIET or you are doing cardio like it's the 80's and thinking that will keep you "lean and toned".

Also...

"Most people who diet or starve weight off end up gaining it back fairly quickly because the body’s metabolism slows as less food is ingested."

Actually, the thermal effect of food is not the culprit. At the risk of over-simplifying, people who starve themselves end up losing muscle mass, and consequently, their metabolism slows drastically (in addition to the fact that cortisol levels are sky high and their body is storing every morsel of food as fat).

Cheers,
J

Weight is only fractionally responsible for your total body weight.
