I spent a week in a detox clinic drinking wheatgrass and the facts are: it is really a deodorizer, I was under a hard sun and (after 3 days of having 4 ozper day with other raw food)my odor change completely, I small like sweet grass (very nice in fact!).
Besides to receive all the benefits of wheatgrass you should drink it alone and wait for 30 minutes before eating something else. I think this doctor has not idea of the product, maybe she knows of drugs but nothing of natural food and its benefits.
I could not disagree more with the good Doctor.I've always had a hard time waking up in the morning and for the last three months I've been waking up before the sun comes up every day without an alarm clock. That is something I have never done in my life. I take 4 oz a day and I easily get by on 6-7 hours of sleep with no naps in the afternoon as has been my practice for the last 20 years. If wheatgrass be the placebo of Life, play on I say! Patrick Neely
This doctor has obviously never had the stuff. Please go have a shot (alone, and without other foods) for yourself, and feel the effects soon after drinking it. You must be numb if you don't
I just had one of these earlier today with a friend that suggested it. He did not say a thing about a rush of energy or any other such sensation until after I insisted that I felt some sort of endorphin rush like feeling. It obviously had some soft of effect that was not psychosomatic. Though, I'm still curious as to what the long term benefits are if any after continuous consumption.
Hi: would you please send me the benefits of Wheatgrass, pls?
Thanks a lot!!
I have recently been listening to an audio program by Anthony Robbins called "Getting the Edge" and it discusses a value of digesting wheat grass as a food stuff with a high alkaline value. As part of your diet, this theory claims, wheat grass will help to lower the acidic level of your system towards the preferred ph value of 7.4ish. The source of this theory , Dr. Young, claims that acidic foods cause the body to react in order to defend the ph level of 7.4 and that these reactions are a source of unhealth. Personally, I am experimenting with this diet of high alkelines (which can't go wrong really given that it is made up of mainly green veggies) but I am unsure of the effects as of yet. Any advice or annecdotes or research on this value of wheatgrass would be appreciated.
Just this morning I was listening to RObbins's "get the Edge" audio programme that Gabriel was referring to above. So fo the whole morning I have been looking on the net for further info and ways of getting it ASAP. I want to try this incredible green drink, and I would like to ask Patrick Neely or whomever who has been taking this the following: how do I get this stuff? Did you have it 100% fresh or you took a product and mixed it with water? If it was a product you used, PLEASE idicate which one exactly was it and where/how did you get it?
Many thanks for your help! Regards to all from Italy
I have had wheatgrass on several occasions and can say that I never felt any noticable effects or boosts of energy. I think the doctor is right - it's all psychosomatic. Also, if there really is any sort of legitimate benifit from the stuff, why is there no authority backing it??

This is an interesting article that I think makes my point clear.

Wheat grass is one of the best things i have done for myself. i have not only got more energy from 4 oz a day... but my skin has tighted and become more ripped and defined. I think wheat grass is the best thing possible everr. I dont cough, i dont get sick, i dont have trouble going to the bathroom. Wheat grass for life! It works, I can tell. I have been taking it for about 6 months now.

I have recently tried adding wheat grass in my regular power veggie shakes using my Vita-Mix juice blender. However, making a shake with the entire wheat grass proved difficult. I ended up drinking a rather chunky shake. Can some one explain to me why everyone is drinking juice extracted from wheat grass rather then consuming the entire wheat grass by eat it? Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to consume the entire wheat grass? Ok I get that you can't easily chew wheat grass but why not just swallow what cannot be chewed? Am I doing something wrong by doing so? Can someone also explain to me why wheat grass is best when drank alone and not mixed in a shake with other raw veggies? I’m a bit confused and eager to get healthy.
hi, does anyone know what kind of wheatgrass is selling at jamba juice??? is it barley, oat or Kamut grow grasses??? which one? Because i heard that only Barley grass is a potent antioxidant! i read the book by Meyerowitz "wheatgrass, nature's finest medicine".
The traditional grass is Hard Red Winter Wheat, because it is a hardy grass and usually tastes better than Barley or Rye grass sprouts. They are each a little different, but, don't get too hung up on it. It's all about in with new and out with old stuff in our bodies. Wheatgrass juice can accelerate the process of clearing waste from your body along with a diet of more fresh greens and fruits.
There are many paths to a clean healthy body. J.
For Matt:
There are probably not much studies to prove the nutritional benefits of wheatgrass juice. However, its typical of western science to be skeptical of certain things specially things used in altenate medicine and even try to dismiss them. However, there are many things which have been known to alternate medicine like ayurveda for centuries and western science is just waking up to them. I usually find such "discoveries" of the western world quite amusing. A few examples of such things known to ayurveda for centuries and which are recent wonders for the scientific community are: Aloe vera, turmeric, garlic, yoga to name a few.
So the choice is for each individual...to rely on centuries old wisdom or to wait for a few years for science to prove or disprove the claims.
To Carina's question on 3/5/07 -- I recall reading recently somewhere (and I apologize that I don't know where specifically) that the human body has difficulty processing natural wheat grass -- thus, the need to juice it. I have purchased a machine and buy it from the store. I also obtain the same at Keeva Juice or Jamba Juice. Does it work? I usually feel better after taking it (stronger, not as antsy, etc). I recently had a physical and my blood work was solid. Have been taking for up to a year -- once or twice a week (1 ounce shots). However, I am curious if there is anything negative out there but haven't found anything yet. Hope this info helps anyone reading it. Thanks.
Wheatgrass is the most amazing health discovery that I have yet to 'stumble upon' after starting my Path to Healing MySelf ; ) This doc as well as many traditional western medicine practictioners don't understand b/c they've never tried it successfully... my acne which is fairly undercontrol, improved dramatically in a matter of DAYS!!! I feel that I want to start a mission educating folks on this amazing energy/healing source of Nature immediately b/c of my almost miraculous skin healing in only a few days... you folks will notice a difference, believe me!!! TRY IT!! ; ) Not to mention alkalize your diet by switching to rawfoods mainly. Very important is the need to consume LIVING foods. What animal in nature eats cooked food? Huh? LIfe feeds on LIFE feeds on Life... (anyone recognise that song?) Namaste... and may you Heal All.
I disagree with the doctor. I've been taking a concoction of wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina and it is really amazing stuff. I bought it in a powdered form and mix with about 8 oz. of water. I take two tablespoons per day and feel wonderful. I used to laugh at this stuff and anyone taking it. Not anymore!
Someone told me about wheatgrass and I bought the plant at a Farmer's Market. I pull off several blades and boil it in the morning and leave it to cool off and drink it with my dinner. I haven't noticed any changes. However, maybe I am boiling away the nutrients???

Evelyn - boiling the wheatgrass will destroy any nutritional value.
It is apparently best taken in whole leaf powder form.
I was recently on a trip in Africa and someone(local) asked me to try wheat grass when I mentioned that I was type II diabetic. I was skeptical for a few days when I returned home to the USA. I finally plucked the courage and started drinking it mixed with glass of apple juice or spring water. I take one 8gram packet of wheat grass before each meal, 3 or 4 times a day. I have also been monitoring my blood sugar more often since I started drinking the wheat grass. I used to take 2mg-4mg of Glimepiride daily, sometimes more - have been on medication for 5yrs+ . I have NOT taken any more medication because wheat grass has such excellent effect on controlling/normalizing my blood sugar. I have to be careful with wheat grass because I have realised that it acts faster than the Glimepiride tablets I used to take. Now my concern is not gettng hypoglycemic, I will continue to modify the amount of wheat grass I take as I learn more. By-the-way I have been on wheat grass for just 5days. This is my experience and story about wheat grass.
I believe the good doc needs to shut the fuck up and go stick his/her head up a camels ass if she/he is giving out such bad advice.
fucking asshole doctor, you need a shot of wheatgrass up your ass, maybe that's where your brain is at.
Hahahhahahahahaa! Well Put Carlos. That made my night and I couldn't agree more.
Carlos, I think you need to learn English before you bash anyone. If you end sentences with prepositions, your argument doesn't hold much water to me or any smart person. You will make yourself look smarter and your argument will look better if you don't end a sentence with the word " AT " . It's redundant and it just plain sounds stupid, like all your cussing. By the way , the correct way to say it is . Where is your brain? < end of fucking sentence moron> no need for AT .piss me off, sorry I couldn't control myself.
optimist, will you please shut the fuck up!? let carlos express himself as he sees fit. this is not english class punk!!! I just tried wheat grass for the first time and it has a strange taste..we will see what effect it has. oh wait a minute, did i end my sentences properly??/
Nice to see that the hippies are unwilling to accept any opinion that is not their own. It's always good to see that the people that are supposedly so accepting are the biggest hypocrites out there.
Maybe potty-mouth is Prophetic in his statement: "you need a shot of wheatgrass up your a**..." There is a place called Optimum Health Institute in San Diego and Austin, also the Hippocrates in Florida, where I have seen and heard people with their testimonials of the amazing benefits they have received from wheatgrass.
I have been through the OHI program and I received amazing health benefits and have continued with wheatgrass shots for 2 years.
Cows and farm animals eat grains, hay and grasses - their huge with muscles and people love to drink their milk.
Wheat grass for six years. I take 4 ounces a day, I'm 6ft3. If you could clone yourself and have your clone take wheatgrass and you don't, you both run, work out, eat healthy etc, your clone will steal your girlfriend with his rock hard dictionary, his skin will be fresher looking and his general health and blood will be better. I tell you what, I've not had any greens in years, I just hate having to sit there and chew on a salad - takes so darned long - with WGJ I don't need greens. I'm swearing by WGJ. As I got older, I had some bad sex once in a while and I just did mental checks: when did I last work-out, run? When did I last have wheatgrass, invariably 3 days ago. Daily! Or every other day. If you're under 25, don't matter, youth will still keep you afloat, but over 25, 30,40,50,60, trust me, take it right and you'll notice the difference. Save your viagra money and go play some serious tennis or basketball. That's what it's done for me. Zone diet, apples, almonds, running, working out, no burgers, no fries, no chips, once a month maybe and I'm SWEARING by wheatgrass. I'm so hard it hurts sometimes and I aint 20 no more, aint been 20 for almost 20 years now! Don't wanna take it, we don't care, cheaper for us, don't make the demand go up, prices will follow just like gas! My dictionary is available for a test drive, come read, increase your vocabulary, polysyllabic words you never thought you could enunciate with stellar clarity. Open up your lungs and scream - I want some wheatgrass dingding! Take it, get your man on it! Flirt with the counter crew, they might give you a discount cuz that shot aint cheap, homie! Costs me $20 a week. Das a tank of gas, homie, das baloney homie. Wheatgrass walk it out! Walk it out!! Walk it out!! Ask me on my death bed when I last took wheatgrass, I know I'll be croaking: "yesterday, young woman/man." Walk it out!

Rest assured the Tom Tomorrow of 2057 will have a good laugh at the wheat grass drinkers' expense... what a hoot.
It's not just about wheatgrass, it's about having an alkaline pH, as some have posted above.
I followed the Anthony Robbins "Living Health" nutrition plan for a whole month. I intended to do it for 10 days, but felt so good after the 10th day, I decided to go a whole month. I am a voracious meat eater, but going raw veggie (no meat, dairy, sugar...) was life changing.
I urge anyone looking to regain the energy they knew as a youth (under age 25) to try it. It's not easy, but its worth it. One month of this gave me 6 to 8 months of incredible energy. I am back to my old bad eating habits, but about to cleanse again.
I used to make fun of vegetarians and vegans, but no more. There really is something to it. But I'll still eat meat regularly with intervals of raw vegan cleansing.
I started in Jamba Juice, then purchased juice machine and made my own. Then I wanted it more and more, so I bought powdered version from http://www.wheatgrass.com and keep thas way for about 3 months. It works magic for me and many friends. I purchased 4 jars and then 8 jars with wheat grass and barley grass tablets just to distribute among friends who wanted this. I feel stronger, skin imperfections are gone, I feel much younger, my digestion improved dramatically, I feel very fresh after leaving bed. My liver has recovered quickly. Just after a few days I did not feel I needed coffeee. I could sit among friends who were sipping coffee and no need for my cup... Wheat grass works great for me and my friends. As for juice machines, it must be slow rotation. Fast juicers kill what you need from fruits, veggies... I see many doctors on the internet who are big shame to the society. Good doctor is simple an ignorant or a liar. Period. Big pharma wants you to be ready for cancer surgery and milk you from your money then... Use your brain! And stop using that ugly microwave for cooking. You will pay for this some day, remember I warned you! Ha,ha,ha - ask "good" doctor about microwave... Peter
ave grown wheatgrass but so busy haven't kep t it up. Is powder or tablets as good or what?
I grow juice and take wheat grass , the benifits are many and amazing . I have problems with joint pains , these vitualy dissapered after I started taking 1 oz a day .
ITs FDA approved. There fore no lies or incorrect information can be given. IF that person can rightfully say its not good for you, has tried it. They obvisouly didnt. Wheat grass is packed with Vitamin K . Which is a great vitamin for the body, it helps detoxify and keep clean. It also cleanses the liver. Maybe you shouldn;t be biased in researching something, you know nothing about. Wheat grass is a great natural product.
Getting older. Love to play tennis and golf and love life. want to feel younger longer. What is the best way to get started? Not a rich woman, so price is important
I just thought I should point out that Amarys' argument is invalid when he/she says that wheatgrass is comparable to ancient medicine that has been around for centuries. Wheatgrass was not used this way until the 1930s, so it has not been used for centuries, and essentially that was a self-defeating argument. However, I just started working at a juice store where we sell Wheat grass. I have been taking it almost every day (2oz) for about a month. I feel more energized and my skin feels healthier, and digestion has been more smooth. It also is a mean hang-over killer. I should point out though that I was pre-disposed to the idea that it is good for you, and my more active (on my feet all day) lifestyle may account for my increased energy. But I definately do feel a short-term energy boost within the hour after I take it.

i had heard about wheatgrass for a long time, but i never got any information, nutritional or even other people's experience about it. i had my first shot 2 weeks ago. i was about to have lunch at a raw foods cafe w/ a girlfriend. i told the waiter it was our first time. he didn't say anything. we took the shot, and then had lunch. and then we both felt very queezy for almost 2 hours. i felt like i wanted to vomit. but at about 2 hours later, i was just fine. i mentioned all of this to my mother-in-law (who is really big on healthy eating, fasting, raw foods, etc) and she told me that 1.you are supposed to have the shot of wheatgrass on an empty stomach and 2.you shouldn't eat ANYTHING for at least an hour after the shot of wheatgrass. we were both surprised that the waiter didn't inform me of this, especially when i told him it was our first time trying it. anyways, with these 2 key rules in mind, a week later, i set out to have another go at the wheatgrass shot. so, on an empty stomach, i did 1 oz. and finished up my grocery shopping (at whole foods). i went home and put the groceries away and i felt pumped. i quickly changed and went to the gym. nobody had mentioned anything about an energy surge to me before, but i knew i had it. i also knew if i didn't go to the gym right then, i probably wouldn't go at all that day. so i went. the energy after a shot of wheatgrass is REAL, promise. maybe those doctors who said it's all 'a placebo effect' had too many prescription pills...seeing as i took it on an empty stomach and knew i couldn't eat for at least an hour, i thought i was going to be starving. turns out, i wasn't hungry for 3 hours after doing the shot. so i can say it was an appetite supressant as well. success! i din't get sick! and i had energy! and it was natural! as i don't drink any sodas or coffees or teas with caffeine...anyway, i've done 2 more successful shots of wheatgrass last week and i plan on continuing. may we all live happier, healthier lives...
Will someone answer the fucking question of whether or not the tablet or powder form is the best???
And umm, all you other hippies raving about wheatgrass, where are you getting it? Are you like cutting it from those cute little commercial pots things that you see on t.v. where people are trying to be all trendy and shit by juicing some grass???
I really want to try it, but want to make sure I get the best stuff. So where is the best place to get wheatgrass? And does it matter if you buy it in a bottle or tablet form?
Someone please answer this. Thanks.
Oh, and JACK LONDON, your rant about wheatgrass was seriously whack. Wheatgrass has clearly not helped you in the mental health department. Clearly, you are a hillbilly red kneck who only has sexual relations with his mom and little sister.
Get a grip, you blabbering idiot! Who's with me here?
have been growing and juicing for years on and off .when i stop my energy levels drop usually about two weeks after stoping ,my bowel movements slow to(about once a day)or sometimes once every two days my laugh lines return and my skin looks a little older sex drive drops dramatically and am not as cheerfull. When i start growing and juicing again within 2 days wrinkles soften, energy thru the roof, bowel movements up to 3 times a day without fail even after eating pasta which constipates me,sex drive comes running back-i want it 3and 4 times a day and erection is much harder, mood changes much happier and jolly, dont know why but when i have been on for about 1 week my face becomes fuller like more chiseled people always comment on this have no idea why it happens..I have proven this stuff works but you must grow it using good soil with lots of minerals in the soil and you must drink imediatley after juicing and on an empty stomach ..for non believers my challnge is this, go to health store buy wheatgrass seeds, soak overnight drain and cover with good soil watch them grow ,when about 5 inches long cut and juice with the correct juicer ,drink with apple or carrot on empty stomach twice a day ..I guarantee within a few days you will be doing backflips..this shit works
weedie i have tried the powder form ,the tablet form ,and the pre juiced in bottles ..believe me it doesent work its a scam ..you have to grow it and juice it urself and drink asap after juicing it cause it starts to lose its potency in around half an hour and within an hour after juicing it is almost devoid of any enzymes ..its simple if you grow and juice urself it is the most amazing stuff i have come across in my quest to be healthy .Im 34 and people are always telling me i look 25 it works
If you have ever been to Robeks Juice, (a competitor of Jamba juice) they have a brochure that talks about wheatgrass in it. It says nothing about antioxidants and energy effects, but just says a simple 1 oz is equal to eating 2-1/2 lbs of veggies. Sounds worth it to me? How many of us get all of those veggies everyday?
I'll have to try this stuff out. Doubters that don't give it a try are silly.
I also discover growing your own sprouts indoors.......google "sprouting sprouts". it is cheap to grow your own bean sprouts and they are full of protein, enzymes, etc. just sprinkle in soups on sandwiches, etc. once you start eating like this, your body adapts and you lose your desire to eat potato chips and drink soda.
For those people who boiled, or blended it. It has to be juiced in order for it to be effective, because humans can't digest it in the straight grass state.
Wheat grass effectively alkalizes the body when consumed as a powder mixed with water. Anthony Robbins talks about this in his "Get the Edge" program.
Hey douche bags go to this site to see the actual values for
wheat grass and decide for yourselves.

I am taking wheatgrass capsules that are supposed to help cure my asbestos disease. Any truth in this theory?

So, the Dole Nutrition Institute found that spinach is a lot more potent in its nutritional offerings--this reminds me of Popeye! I think the key here is to not say "wheat grass is IT." As someone said before in this posting, there are many paths to health--whether that's wheat grass or spinach or a very healthy diet balanced with copious daily intakes of vegetables and fruits.
Wheat grass does seem like a very convenient way to keep healthy--if you are consistent and juice everyday. This isn't a cure-all either, as your lifestyle should change for the better so you can live a healthier life.
Cheers!
Dear Fellows all over the world,
My father (64 yo) has diagnosed CA Larynx T4 and was operated few months ago in Spore. We would like to really know about the power of wheatgrass. Do u mind all to share your experience and love with? Is there somebody heal by consuming wheatgrass, or viceversa; perhaps someone got 'bad'experience about that, etc.
Do you know where can i buy a ready-to-drink wheat grass powder?

Hello
I have been given all the wonderful news of wheat grass. I have cancer now and therefore, have been searching for a healthy way of bringing my body to a more alkaline level. I have been to two doctors who have recommended wheat grass. I have spoken with cancer survivors who sing the praises of it just for the effects of the way it makes them feel.
There is not ONE cure all out there but we do have a choice to make our bodies more immune to the impunities that we are bombarded with on a daily basis.
What I have learned is wheat grass MUST be taken on an empty stomach. You must wait AT LEAST 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything after taking the shot. It is best taken alone but if you must take something take it with a very small amount of distilled water or freshly juiced fruit or vegetable. It is best to grow your own ... more easily done in the cooler climate ... the darker green the more nutritious. Soak the seeds overnight ... cover with soil and wait for it to grow. You can cut it once it's five inches...
OH ... and don't forget ... it's always best to chew your food ... even your juiced foods!
Here are my two questions ... can someone recommend a wheat grass press AND a juicer that they have liked working with?
And has anyone been to or have had any experience with Woodlands Healing Research Center in Quakertown, PA?
Thank you for your time and PEACE BE STILL!
Lynn
Like a number of people here, I have just listened to the "get the edge" CD's, and have been inspired to try wheat grass for myself. I suffer from IBS which makes eating fruit and vegetables difficult. I have purchased a juicer together with some pregrown grass and seed. From what I have read, 30ml seems to be the amount recommended daily, but if anyone has alternative suggestions let me know.
Hopefully I will experience the effects so many of you have described, and intend to keep you updated. But for what its worth, I'm a 49 year old male, who doesn't smoke, drinks in moderation and works out regularly. 16lbs overwieght, with very low sex drive (god I hope it works!)
I have started taking Wheatgrass capsules, because i was told it was good for fertility, (helping in the womb)....i have found that my skin is looking better!!!, ( i suffer with pcos and am prone to bad skin through this) i have a glow to my cheeks, and i am not needing as much sleep.....i am waking up at the crack of dawn.....i will keep u updated.
I was at a detox health institute and the program was based on wheatgrass (4oz.) and raw vegetables everyday. I never felt so good upon leaving there and I feel it was mostly due to the power and benefits of the wheatgrass. I had felt so energized and my skin and hair were looking fabulous!
Wheatgrass Chlorophyll is a whole food not a supplement. Dr. Anne Wigmore is the foremost expert on th issue. Whaetgrass oxiginates the blood, kills free radicals, attracks toxins, deodorizes the body, has every known vitamin and mineral in the quantity and quality most appropriate for human consumption. Chlorophyll is the closest known substance to human blood the main difference is blood is iron base and wheatgrass chlorophyll is magnesium base. Wheatgrass chlorophyll can prevent cancer from occuring via making the blood less acidic and at the most efficient alkeline level when taken regularly, approximately a minimum of 2-4 oz. per day. I could go on but you own research would serve you better. Finally, the best form of wheatgrass is grown outdoors in direct sunlight and harvested when it reaches a hieght of 7-11 inches tall. The grass should be planted during the cold months and harvested during the warm months to be most effective and to have the most nutritional value.
In closing, It is a shame to refer to an expert on nutrition who has not done any homework on the topic. The expert sounds like they read a few marketing plans on the substance and never once referred to any research as any decent 'expert' would. The article is flawed and the comment section has some great anocdotals.
Yours,
G.
P.S. Later, I will post a great source that sells frozen cubes of the juice over the internet and ships it in a cooler with dry ice.
Here is a great source for wheatgrass juice based on my findings. Drink well!!!

I like wheat grass juice because it makes my poop smell like a freshly cut lawn.
I feel great from just reading the posts but it might be the giggling. I have orderd a Green Star and I intend to Juice Spinich and grass. If it works for me I'll be posting.
Hey I don't want to brag but wheatgrass is the best thing I've ever discovered. I am going on 44 years of age yet I date girls in there early twenties because I look very young thanks to wheatgrass and the energy I have is uncanny. When I tell them I'm in my forties they don't beleive me even though I show them my ID. I could be the poster boy for wheatgrass,it has changed my life and look.
Dmitri - I am so glad that you enjoy wheatgrass in order to date younger women... For that reason alone, I am sure many many men would be willing to try it. Good luck mr. wheatgrass player.
Jose--- check on line for a Vita-Mix. My friend has one and likes it but like all the posts you will have to make your
Wheatgrass has done wonders for my sex life. After on it for 3 weeks, the volume of my ejaculate has tripled. Before it just dribled out, but now I shoot like a water canon, and my girlfriend tells me it tasts a little grassy
Dmitri,
To prove me that you can look that young "because of wheatgrass", please email me your picture to
muah12000@yahoo.com.
Thanks.
It's amazing that doctors always claim something does not work or is ineffective when their is no money to be made. I was a avid drinker of wheatgrass every morning. My appetite was suppressed and I was never ill. I had plenty of energy and believe it or not I never craved any sweets. Well now I live in a town where I cannot find any fresh wheatgrass and I feel it is the reason for a lot of my ailments and my weight gain. I just purchased a kit after 3 years w/o and I cannot wait for it to arrive. I turned probably over 20 people on to wheatgrass and the people I left behind in Atlanta that take wheatgrass are grateful.
Thanks

wheat grass is a fountain of youth. I suffered from extreme
acid reflux for three years. I was in the emergency room more then once for throwing up blood. Doctors put me on several meds such as zantac prilosec and others and they all seemed to make it worse so I quit taking them all. I heard about the grass from a friend. after a couple of months of taking it I was completely cured. I also quit getting migrains. I have been taking it on and off for four years. Basically when I notice I dont have as much energy i start taking it again. plus it will give you morningwood that you could polevault with.
I eat a little of everthing, but I keep my diet clean for the most part and I work out six days a week. I have been wondering about wheatgrass for awhile but the idea of drinking grass puts me off. Recently, I came down with bronchitis and I am trying any and every natural remedy to rid my system of it (I don't want to use chemicals to fix it). Today, I thought about trying wheatgrass when I saw it on a menu from the place I got my. Eager to learn more about it (the menu said wheatgrass is high in vitamins A, C, D, and E) I found it kind of hard to believe 2 oz. of this stuff is so powerful and nutritious. I looked it up on the Internet and I stumbled on this site. I got mixed reviews from the comments I read, so I delved deeper. This is a website I have saved as a favorite and this is what I found out about wheatgrass. You be the judge: http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c22Mt.html
Ok, its been just over a month since I started, I take 30mls first thing in the morning and the same just before bed. I tend to add a little apple juice to make it more paletable. So far I must say that I feel better for drinking the juice, I sleep better and generally feel brighter. My weight has started dropping again and my skin is definately smoother. Ofcourse all this could be the placebo effect, but who cares!.
I'm growing my own grass in seed trays as per instructions, but I don't seem to get as much juice as is generally indicated in the literature. Any suggestions?
Hi.. if its the chlorophyll in wheat grass that does the trick, then why take only wheat grass and not just any other greens, juice it and drink it?
i read somewhere that wheat grass helps cure/ prevent CANCER, does anyone know anyone who has used it to combat the killer-disease??? an if it hashelped??
Having been diagnosed with breast cancer only a month and a half ago, I am determined to help "normalize" my immune system ASAP with alternative therapy which includes herbal supplements and wheatgrass juice theraupeutic dose of 3-4 ozs per day.Which by the way, was advised by a Registered Pharmacist here in the U.S.( Educated with western medicine but not limiting his practice and support for alternative medicine)Honestly,I don't know if it will really work but I'm giving it a shot because I have nothing to loose. We are blessed with abundance of everything in the U.S however, we are also the sickest. How come? Anyhoo, I have started taking the wheatgrass juice in the past 2 weeks. More energy? Yes. Might it be just in my head? I don't think so because in the past few weeks I was depress, felt had no energy to think or to get up and move...
I have cancer and was recommended trying wheatgrass juice. Does anyone know whether powder/juice or pill form would be more effective as far a cancer fighting benefits? Can u use any type of juicer also? Please help educate me so I can use this resource as soon as possible. Thank u
Juicing fresh wheatgrass offers the most nutrients.Dedicated wheatgrass juicers are recommended due to its "masticating" part w/h gets the most juice out of the wheatgrass.(www.wheatgrasskits.com offers abundance of info)
Diana, you need a masticating juicer, not a chopper/centrifuge type. I bought a hand powered plastic one for about £25.00, and it works just fine. I have to say that I really believe the juice is making an improvment in my overall health and vitality, so I hope you and everyone else with health issues as much success as I seem to be having.
I've recently purchased a masticating type of juice called "the healthy juicer" manufactured by lexen. You can purchase the hand cranked or electric driven. It is designed to juice veggies, fruits and greens, ie, spinach or wheatgrass. very affordable. $55.00 , US delivered. Google lexen juicer.
I currently have the Jack La lane type of spinning juicer and had ok results but it is harder to clean and doesn't juice spinach or wg.
The dole article comparing spinach with wheat grass is very interesting. I just planted some wheat sprouts a few days ago. They are popping up thru the soil and I will be juicing the stuff very soon.
I plan to experiment with the spinach juice,in the mean time. 1-2 oz , on an empty stomach and then compare the results when having tried the WG.
Thanks to all who have posted. Great opinions!!!
Diana, The best wheatgrass juicer for under 400 is the wheateena red label. It is a juicer that uses an auger (screw type press) to press the juice out of the grass. This is the type of juicer that is used by professionals for extracting wheatgrass. Over $400, you can get a stainless steel Miracle juicer for about $599.00. Wheateena makes a more powerful juicer but it isn't stainless steel (harder to care for). I haven't come across any human research with WGJ and cancer. I believe there are some animal studies. Ann Wigmore says the juice is more powerful as there are enzymes that begin to degrade soon after the juice is pressed. Most people with experience believe the juice is much more powerful. There is one research paper I know of that confirms that.
FYI. Vivian Crisman's criticism of wheatgrass posted at the beginning of this post are not based on scientific research; she in effect, is advancing a unscientific and unsubstantiated POV. 85% of Medical procedures are also unsubstantiated. That's right, 85%. There are plenty of shams out there for sure. Some of the claims made by proponents of wheatgrass are exaggerated. Some of them may turn out to be or wrong.
But until research is done that will shed some light as to how wheatgrass' positive effects are mediated, the best we can do is consider to the anecdotal experience of others and our own personal experience.
FOR ANY OF THOSE WHO HAVE CANCER, TRY DRINKING ESSIAC TEA. LOOK IT UP ON LINE. IT MAY HELP YOU.
GOD BLESS.
The body needs a lot of raw, green veggies to help boost metabolism and make everything in general work right. Near as I can tell, wheat grass is a concentrated form of what all these green veggies will supply to the body which is why it is a healthy "drink". For someone like me who doesn't like to eat a lot, and I mean a lot, of raw green vegatables every day, this stuff is exactly what I need.
I read through a lot of these comments and saw many mixed responses. For those of you who don't think that wheat grass does anything, and that you haven tried it with no effects I have a secret--I worked at a juice place with a cheap owner--she would re-grow the wheatgrass flats that she bought in a manner that apparently depleated the nutrients, but saved her money and time. I'm not an expert and I have no idea how or what or why, but she balantly told us this. I've taken the pills and felt stronger effects than taking the shots.
Hi all. I'm going to answer 'WEEDIS' question, and a few other's as well. Powdered forms of Wheat Grass are not as pure, or potent as freshly juiced. To purchace Wheat Grass, you can go to a nutrisional store such as Clark's. The grass is sold in what they call a 'Flat'. Easy to remember... A 'FLAT OF GRASS'. To juice the grass properly, take some scissors and cut a 3-4 in. in diamiter, and about 2-3 in. depth area of the grass. I personally recommend the Hand Crank Juicer, as it is the most gentle and most benificial way to extract the juice. You'll get about 2 oz. each section of grass you cut from the Flat. A Flat lasts about 7-10 days, depaending upon the amounts you desire. When finished, throw out the Flat, and that's that. And go back for MORE!!! Other tidbitts of use...To the person who suggested 'they should stick thier opinion up-their ass, well, you actually can. As an Ennima. As an antiseptic for wounds and abbrssions, a gargle for sore throats, bleeding gums, and whiter teeth. As a facial cleanse and tightener for aging skin. The list goes on and on.I'm not a Fanatic, but these are proven Benifit's.Because of my own illneess, I drink about 6-10 oz. daily. for cell rejuvination, detoxification of my liver, and the overall benifits it has given to me. Hope this helped some of your questions, gave some 'new' info, and inspired some to give Wheat Grass a chance and closer look to it's benifits. One last thing.... Results take longer to notice with normal, healthier individuals. they have less breakdowns with thier systems. God bless 'em!

We have the Green Power juicer and have had it for years using it often with no breakdown. It juices wheatgrass easily and cleans up in about a minute. http://www.bestjuicers.com/greenpower.html
I started taking wheatgrass (had the powder) with no idea of the claims behind it. My MIL is an organic nutritionist and gave me some, saying it'll make me "feel much better." She didn't tell me on purpose as she didn't want any changes I saw to be blamed on the placeobo effect. At first I felt WORSE though...like i was getting a cold, stomach hurt, tired. I think that was just it detoxing my body a bit. After that initial phase, I began to feel great!!
Well... wow! This stuff is great. NO, one little shot taken once in your life will NOT do anything. It needs to be a regular, everyday thing. I've personally found no difference between powdered and fresh kinds, although other people might. And I don't mind the taste, it has always reminded me of unsweetened iced tea.
Oh and the cancer bit....
My mother in law became an organic nutritionist BECAUSE of cancer. She had stomach cancer and colon cancer. She started taking organic greens (highly alkaline) and her cancer has never returned. After the tumors were removed (they were huge) they wanted her to get chemo. She did a highly alkaline diet instead and 10 years later, she is still cancer free.
I tried wheat grass for the first time today and had a similar reaction to cynthia. I had eaten a pluot about twenty minutes prior and after the shot "chased it" with a 16oz smoothie. I felt so weird and quesy for a while afterward. I really didn't/don't know much about wheatgrass and didn't really have any expectations but I wish that I had known to take it on an empty stomach... Does anyone know why you are supposed to take it on an empty stomach and why it may have made me feel sick?
Also, is the frozen kind, mentioned by someone earlier, going to be as potent as the fresh? I know many times people have said that it is much better to take it freshly juiced opposed to capsules or powder but I was just wondering if the frozen is any where close to fresh?
Thanks!!

perhaps if the author was serious about investigating wheatgrass and its miraculous healing properties, she would have interviewed someone other than a nutritionist with limited knowledge, and apparently some kind of axe to grind. perhaps contacting the good folks at the ann wigmore institute could have provides some balance to you obviously slanted "journalsim". wheatgrass can change your life, but any insipid sophomore should know, you don't change a lifetime of bad dietary habits in one shot. and the taste, well, is acquired. but the benefits are real. you can investigate responsibly, or fit the "facts" to support your preconceived conclusion. the evidence is clear, in spite of this poorly written and researched atricle: WHEATGRASS IS REAL, AND IS ALWAYS BEST IN THE RAW FORM (FRESHLY JUICED VS. PILLS POWDERS, ETC) LONG LIVE WHEATGRASS AND THE LEGEND OF ANN WIGMORE
chiristine.
in re: you comments/questions.... wheatgrass is best when taken on an empty stomach so its benefits can be maximized. as for the "queasy" or "sick" feeling after downing a shot, it is not uncommon, especially for infrequent or first-time users. the reason? the detoxifying "magic" of wheatgrass has been thrown into the cesspool of the SAD (standard american diet), and it is causing an uproar in your system, clean as you may think that temple be. kind of like when the priest sprinkles holy water on linda blair in the exorcist, and she finds it revolting. wheatgrass has amazing healing powers, and is ALL natural, when juiced and consumed promptly. don't shy away because of a first time bad reaction. as your body gets detoxed, you will lose that feeling and find it replaced by one of energized vitality. the taste might take some getting used to. but then again, so does the taste of scotch, or your poison of choice. in short, wheatgrass does not mix well with toxins, in which the average american body has a cornicopia residing. you don't get that way over night, and you don't correct it overnight either. but if you try it over a period of time, with a mostly raw or non-meat dairy diet for say 30 days, you will be forever changed in your view. nothing speaks like success and proof. good luck
lastly.. for now.. wheatgrass is best used IMMEDIATELY after juicing, as it loses 50% of its nutritional value in 30 minutes. read ann wigmore THE WHEATGRASS BOOK, which references many scientific studies of the benefits of wheatgrass.
You can google: The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore to find out any information you want to know about the benefits of drinking wheatgrass and growing your own. Think the fresh juiced is better than powders & capsules. It does not taste bad as others have mentioned. I think it actually tasts good and have started drinking it everyday. More energy and require less sleep:)
Hello,
I have spent the evening reading all of the comments on this page. I have gained much information and inspiration on the benefits of wheatgrass. I have recently been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. While watching the documentary Crazy Sexy Cancer, I was introduced to the cleansing properties of wheatgrass accompanied with a healthy balanced lifestyle. I would like to hear from others who have taken an alternative path to healing from cancer. I do not want to napalm, radiate or drug my body. I believe in the ability to heal myself. Now, my question. I saw on one of the sites a metal crank juicer which is very similar to the old meat grinders of grandmas day. Is there anyone out there who knows if this would double as a wheatgrass juicer? (Sounds out there, but I deal in vintage kitchen and they look the same to me!) I appreciate your input.

yes, the hand ones are actually used as meat grinders in some places. they are the least expensive, yet do require a fair bit of elbow to make the juice. if you plan to do an extended regimen with wheatgrass, i'd strongly suggest you reaearch and find an affordable electric one as you will be doing lots of juicing, and the added expense is well worth the investment.
the "living foods" book (no recommendation pro or con) has an article about a 25ish young woman who had breast cancer. against the advice of family and medical people, she went to the center, used wheatgrass and 6 months later was cancer-free. of course, no medical claims can be made, but the results are out there for those who chose to investigate alternatives to the obscenity of modern health care. car accident? emergency room. otherwise, NO THANKS!
peace and good luck

Regarding Aunt Katie comment, it should be pointed out that cancers can not survive in an alkaline environment. The medical profession is very slow to point this out if at all. There does not appear to be much research on this topic as there is no money to be made by the drug companies which is where the big money is to be made after extensive and costly R&D is done. I doubt the vegetable and wheatgrass growers and suppliers are going to spend any money at all to back this up and why should they. You will have to research this on your own. Eating large amounts of green vegetables with or without wheatgrass will get you there and juicing or consumption of powdered "green drink" seems to be the way to go to get the quantities needed to raise PH to optimal levels. You can also buy PH testing kits so you can monitor progress.
What's the difference, if any, between the powdered form (Amazing Grass) and liquid? I don't see any references to the powdered form.
