Earth Sciences creates new department

The School of Earth Sciences has created a new department, the Department of Environmental Earth System Science.

The core of the academic classes in the new department will come from the interdisciplinary and currently interdepartmental Earth Systems major. The major’s transformation into a department — which will be housed in the Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy building — should by finished next year.

Students in the department will study the chemical, biological and physical processes of the natural world. The department is also considering offering master’s and doctoral degrees.
