GOALKEEPER SHANE EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

Junior goalkeeper Laura Shane was named an All-American for the second straight year by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, selected to the U.S. Lacrosse All-American second team.

The goalkeeper started all 17 games played in the 2007 season, and she had 190 saves for a .534 save percentage. Shane also had a 9.70 goals-against average on the season. In the last three games before the Cardinal won its third straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title, Shane had 28 total saves and a 6.51 GAA.

She is ranked seventh in the nation and has already earned a IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region selection, as well as MPSF Tournament MVP and All-MPSF honors.

The junior out of Baltimore, Md. was one of 48 women’s lacrosse players chosen to three U.S. Lacrosse teams. They will be honored at an awards banquet on June 16 in Prussia, Penn.

TWELVE LACROSSE PLAYERS SCORE ALL-ACADEMIC

Stanford women’s lacrosse had 12 players named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, including one student-athlete with a 3.92 GPA.

The Cardinal was second only to California (with 14) in the amount of selections. Athletes must have a 3.0 or better grade-point average, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have played in half of her team’s games that season.

Seniors Bryanne Gilkinson and Rachel Dyke, juniors Katharine Fox, Daphne Patterson, Megan McClain and Bri Ned were selected for the second consecutive year. Juniors Alicia Soto and Laura Shane and sophomores Melissa Vogelsong, Maris Perlman, Bess Siegfried and Jamie Nesbitt also earned the honors.

Vogelsong, a native of Jamesville, N.Y. led her team academically with a 3.92 GPA.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation named 54 All-Academic selections from its six participating schools.

WATER POLO NETS EIGHT ON ALL-

ACADEMIC TEAM

Stanford women’s water polo is as successful in academics as it is against league foes. The Cardinal had eight selections to the 2007 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, tying for the most All-Academic selections with California and Hawaii.

Seniors Katie Hansen, Alison Gregorka, Meridith McColl and Christina Hewko were named to the team. Hansen is majoring in human biology, Gregorka studies urban education and McColl and Hewko are majors in international relations.

Junior Jacquelyn Gauthier, a human biology major, was also selected. Sophomores Kira Hillman, Jessica Ateffens and Heather West — all undecided — were also selected.

Student-athletes must have compiled a 3.0 or better grade-point average and played in half of her team’s games. No. 2 Stanford put up pretty good marks, too — the team went 27-3 this season.
