Diana Clough ‘07 will travel to the White House today to take her Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Oath of Office from President George W. Bush. Clough will take the oath with 50 other ROTC cadets who plan to enter the Army, Air Force or Navy.

The occasion will mark the first time the president has conducted the swearing-in ceremony for ROTC cadets, according to Lt. Col. Shari Corbett, the military science department chair at Santa Clara University.

Because Stanford prohibits ROTC chapters from being based at the University, students who opt to participate in the program must train elsewhere. Air Force cadets train at San Jose State University, Navy midshipmen drill at UC-Berkeley and Army cadets attend courses at Santa Clara.

Today’s ceremony will occur at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
